Mr. Hicks is an educator? yikes!

WOW, this is ridiculous! Yes, it is satirical and meant to provoke laughter, but what are we laughing at? It seems we are laughing at how in the year 2012 some people still think we live in the middle ages! How is it that in 2012, in Arizona, our neighboring state, there are people who still think this way, have been brought up with this type of perspective, and refuse to change their way of thinking? It is mind boggling...
Check out this short interview on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I am not sure about this Mr. Hicks character, but he is an influential individual who will shape the education of a lot of children and young adults in Arizona...how sad! hmmmm, who would you choose as an educator, Mr. Acosta or Mr. Hicks? It seems Arizona has chosen Mr. Hicks because Mr. Acosta is too dangerous. Does Mr. Hicks pose no threat!?

  1. Wow, thank you for sharing, Sean. It is the first time I have actually heard an interview with one of these people in favor of the Tucsan ban on books/ethnic studies. It makes me even more angry and inspired to support groups like Librotraficante. This man, Mr. Hicks, has absolutely no shame in making obvious his ignorance. It is sad how backwards so may in this country continue to be. He sounds so uneducated, what a shame that he is in a position of power in the education system ;(

  2. Shocking! The real failure is that Mr. Hicks was probably educated in our public schools. :( I did attend the Librotraficantes event at the NHCC, by the way, and it was a full house! Standing room only! I hope that indicates that NM will not only avoid a similar path, but offer positive alternatives for our neighbors.

  3. Sean - you beat me to posting this! lol I think they set this up to make him look really ignorant, but at the same time what he says is bad any way you look at it. It's almost painful to think this guy holds such a powerful position. Pobrecitos ninos.
